After the tragic death of 22-month-old ZaZa in Joondalup WA, the council is voting this Tuesday on a motion to install LifeVac devices throughout all council facilities and sporting fixtures in the area. At the briefing session last week, there were the usual questions from the critics who do not have an understanding of research, regulation or legislation in Australia, however, we were able to have a deputation read on our behalf to counter the nonsense raised with facts.
This is a great initiative and a good lesson for the NSW Education Department, which has so far buried its head in the sand rather than tackle the issue of deaths due to choking in NSW schools.
As reported recently the responses from the Education Department and the Minister Prue Car have contained false and misleading information and misquotations from the relevant legislation. The matter is not in the hands of the NSW Ombudsman to investigate this questionable conduct.
