Demand New Beach Volleyball Courts in North Vancouver
The Issue
Volleyball has always been more than a game for me. It's a community, a passion, and a crucial part of my mental and physical well-being. Through this sport, I've found lifelong friendships and a supportive community that thrives in the fresh Northshore air of North Vancouver. Unfortunately, our beloved game is under threat as the number of accessible beach volleyball courts drastically declines.
Just a decade ago, the Northshore was home to nine vibrant beach volleyball courts. Now, we are on the brink of losing the last two functional courts. This alarming reduction is happening despite the sport's undeniable rise in popularity each year. With no courts to play on, aspiring athletes and casual players alike are being sidelined, deprived of opportunities this sport uniquely offers—physical fitness, social interaction, and mental relaxation.
Local organizations such as Urban Rec, Volleyball BC, BCO, and Better at Beach have expressed the necessity of more courts to accommodate our growing volleyball community. We even have Canadian Silver medallists who paved their way to success on these beaches, resulting in some of the most-watched and celebrated finals. Imagine what we could achieve with more resources and support!
Establishing new beach volleyball courts would not only preserve a rich tradition but also encourage a healthy, vibrant community culture. It's a proactive step towards nurturing future athletes, promoting health, and fostering social connections.
Stand with us in urging local authorities to prioritize the development of new beach volleyball courts in North Vancouver. Together, we can ensure this cherished sport continues to flourish here on our beautiful shores.
