As a woman who enjoys all sports, especially women's basketball, it breaks my heart to see the current state of the WNBA. I have three granddaughters who dream of playing in the league, but with the issues plaguing the WNBA, I find it increasingly difficult to encourage them to pursue that dream. The league has lost its essence, and instead of being a nurturing environment for women's basketball, it has become dangerous for the wellbeing of its players. Night after night, the product on display is inexcusable, and we need a change now.

The leadership under Cathy Engelbert has repeatedly failed to protect the women in the league. Her recent comments about some of the female players not only undermine their talents but also their passion and commitment to the sport. It is unacceptable for someone in such a significant role to allow these oversights and maintain this level of disregard for player welfare.

Furthermore, the poor officiating has become a consistent issue, with questionable calls damaging the integrity of the game. Transparency is lacking across all aspects of the WNBA, leaving fans frustrated and athletes without proper support.

We demand the NBA step in to address these concerns urgently. The first step towards change should be the removal of Cathy Engelbert from her position and the appointment of a leader who will prioritize the safety and fair treatment of all players. Secondly, we need systematic improvements in officiating standards and transparency measures to instill trust and integrity back into the game.

This is about more than just basketball; it's about creating a professional and secure environment for the women who give their all on the court. With these changes, we can look forward to a brighter future for women's basketball and ensure that young girls like my granddaughters have a promising and inspiring path to follow.
