We’ve Reached 500 Signatures – Thank You!
We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who has supported our petition so far. Reaching the 500-signature mark is a significant milestone, and it’s already beginning to have an impact.
Thanks to your voices, the Council has been forced to take notice. Emergency meetings have now been arranged to discuss their plans for future burial spaces in Wakefield—a clear response to the growing pressure from this campaign.
That said, many questions remain unanswered. There are ongoing rumours about whether the Council plans to extend Sugar Lane Cemetery or if they are considering a new site in Kettlethorpe. What we do know is that Sugar Lane is running out of space, and the people of Wakefield deserve a clear, transparent plan with defined timelines.
The Council has a statutory duty to provide burial space—just as it is doing in Hemsworth and Pontefract. The people of Wakefield City are asking for no more than the same consideration and respect.
Please continue to share the petition and spread the word. Your support is working, and together, we can ensure Wakefield’s needs are not overlooked.
Thank you again for standing with us.
