The Issue

I recently moved from South Florida to the Colony Ridge Neighborhood in Liberty County, Texas, bringing with me two big dogs who are part of my family. Little did I know, I was stepping into a heartbreaking reality faced by countless animals and residents here. Within weeks of settling in, I have been relentlessly confronted with the appalling sight of neglected, abused, and abandoned animals, left to fend for themselves in our community. Tragically, the streets are lined with the bodies of dead and starving animals, the result of a grossly inadequate response to their distress.

The apathy of Liberty County officials towards this crisis is inexplicable. Packs of wild dogs, formed from abandoned pets, now roam our neighborhoods, instilling fear and posing a risk to both human and animal residents. The situation is dire, and it cannot be ignored any longer.

We call upon Liberty County's officials to step up and implement urgent measures that will protect and care for these innocent beings. Firstly, there is an immediate need for a dedicated no-kill shelter in Liberty County, providing a safe haven for animals that are otherwise left to die. Establishing accessible and affordable spay and neuter programs will help control the population and prevent future suffering.

Additionally, it is imperative to establish a robust animal control department empowered to investigate and remedy instances of cruelty, neglect, and abuse. This department should have the resources and authority to ensure that every reported case is acted upon decisively.

Liberty County cannot turn a blind eye to this growing problem any longer. The residents, both human and animal, of the Colony Ridge Neighborhood deserve to live in a community where compassion and responsibility are at the forefront.

Your voice can make a difference. By signing this petition, you urge the Liberty County authorities to take immediate and meaningful action to turn the tide on animal suffering and create a community we can all be proud of. Let us rally together to demand change and offer these animals a chance at a life filled with care and dignity.
