Save our trees! Demand Lewisham Council to Enforce CPO Irresponsible Landowner

The Issue

We, local residents, are extremely concerned at the damage being done to the Site of Interest for Nature Conservation, and repeated breaches of the Tree Preservation Order, at Willow Tree Riding Establishment and Nature Reserve, between Hither Green Railway Sidings, Ronver Road, Rayford Avenue and St Mildred’s Road, all SE12.

We are witnessing the destruction of our beloved natural spaces. Our local council, despite its policies for carbon net-reduction, bio-diversity net-gain and a commitment to increase tree populations, seems to be failing us. The landowner in question has repeatedly assaulted this site of interest for nature conservation (SINC) and metropolitan open land (MOL) with bulldozers, chainsaws and herbicides. This is not only an attack on our environment but also a blatant disregard for the tree preservation order (TPO).

This area forms an intrinsic part of Grove Park’s Neighbourhood plan to enhance the remaining nature in the ward - Railway Children’s Urban District Park. However, those employed to defend our natural areas appear to be meekly watching from the sidelines as this precious space is degraded.

The time has come for Lewisham Council to act decisively by serving a compulsory purchase order (CPO) on this irresponsible land-owner. We urge them not only as citizens but as stewards of our environment who understand that once lost; these spaces can never be replaced.

We call upon all Londoners who value their green spaces and believe in responsible stewardship of our environment to join us in demanding action from Lewisham Council before it's too late. Please sign this petition now!
