As one of the first car owners to install the new On-Board Unit (OBU), I have personally experienced the inconvenience and potential safety risks associated with its design. The placement of card readers under passenger seats is not only an obstruction to passenger comfort, but it also poses a significant challenge for drivers who need to reach their cashcards. This becomes particularly hazardous when a gantry fails to read the card, forcing drivers to manually retrieve their cashcards while driving.

The current design overlooks these practical concerns, focusing on technological advancement at the expense of driver safety and convenience. It is crucial that we address this issue before it escalates into more serious consequences such as road accidents or traffic disruptions.

We urge the Land Transport Authority (LTA) to postpone further implementation of this new OBU design until they can adequately address these concerns. We believe that a comprehensive review and relooking process will allow LTA time to refine its technology in ways that prioritize both innovation and user experience.
