Early this morning, the family of Jose and Josue Trejo Lopez was contacted with deeply troubling news: the boys were told by ICE that they are being prepared for deportation today—despite prior assurances that removal would not take place before Friday, May 9.
This comes even though ICE had committed to making a decision on their pending I-246 Stay of Removal applications by today. As of this posting, no decision has been issued.
Jose and Josue have lived in the U.S. since they were children, have no criminal history, and have pending petitions for Special Immigrant Juvenile Status. A legal guardian was appointed by the New York Family Court, and their motion to reopen remains pending before the Board of Immigration Appeals.
Over 800 of you have signed the petition—688 just today. Your voices matter. Please continue to share and raise awareness. We are doing everything possible to ensure that due process is honored and that they are not removed before their legal claims are heard.
