UPDATE: GUILTY PLEA! Gypsy was brutally beaten for 4 min. with a trailer hitch on video!
The Issue
🚨 UPDATE: Gabriel Martinez has pled GUILTY to ALL 5 counts of Felony Animal Cruelty.
Under Florida’s Criminal Punishment Code, this equates to approximately 140 sentencing points, carrying a minimum guideline sentence of about 7 years in prison, with a maximum of up to 25 years (5 years per count, if imposed consecutively).
Sentencing is expected to be addressed on May 29th, the next scheduled court date.
⚖️ This is a critical moment for accountability.
Judge Caroline Cahill Shepherd
State Attorney Fredrick Cushmore
Palm Beach County, Florida
We, the undersigned, are calling for true justice for Gypsy — a defenseless four-year-old dog who endured prolonged and horrific abuse at the hands of Gabriel Martinez, captured on video.
We respectfully urge Judge Caroline Cahill Shepherd and State Attorney Fredrick Cushmore to pursue and deliver a sentence that reflects the full severity of this crime.
According to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, Martinez was arrested and charged under Florida Statute 828.12 following a deeply disturbing incident at a Boca Raton residence. Surveillance footage and a sworn arrest affidavit show Martinez repeatedly beating Gypsy with a metal trailer hitch, cornering her against a fence while yelling threats and profanities.
⚠️ WARNING: Video is disturbing

The verified footage shows the attack lasting over four minutes. During this time, Martinez can be heard saying, “Once I get you you're dead,” and “You are going to get put down.” The assault ended only after Gypsy collapsed, whimpering and bleeding.
A veterinarian confirmed the extent of her injuries:
Broken paw
Multiple limb fractures
Bone contusions
Abdominal bruising
Severe and prolonged pain
Gypsy may suffer permanent damage, including the possible loss of a limb.
This was not a moment of anger — this was sustained, intentional torture.
We ask that Gabriel Martinez be held fully accountable. Anything less than a meaningful sentence would fail to reflect the severity of this violence and the suffering inflicted.
The Animal Justice Task Force has been closely monitoring this case since Martinez’s arrest and has contacted the State Attorney’s Office regarding its outcome.
