Cosmo and Yarrow are two zebu bulls that were rescued from a feedlot in December of 2019 along with a mama pig named Miss Poinsettia Pretty Pig and went to live with Ashley DiFelice and her son at the former Twist of Fate "sanctuary". Poinsettia had recently given birth to 10 piglets, but sadly none of them had survived. I don't know what became of Poinsettia - she wasn't named on the list of survivors, so she passed away sometime after March of 2020, which was the date of the last post about her on the old TOF Patreon. In the photo above, Cosmo is on the left and Yarrow is on the right. 

Zebu cows are a breed that originated in South Asia and differ in appearance from most cattle breeds due to the fatty hump on their shoulders, large dewlap (the loose skin that hangs under the neck), and sometimes large and/or drooping ears. They also have horns and looser skin and are typically used for milk, their flesh, or as draft animals (work animals). It's so sad and unfortunate that these beautiful animals are so used, abused, and disrespected like this.

The two zebus were getting ready to be weighed for slaughter when Ashley stepped in to take them.  She already had a zebu at TOF that her son Deacon had named Hump*, who had been saved from slaughter around the beginning of 2019. Once they adopted Hump she wanted to look for other zebus to be his friends. 

After they were pulled Cosmo and Yarrow spent time in quarantine. After a few weeks another zebu that Ashley rescued from a breeder in January of 2020 named Lilac* joined them. As soon as Lilac was unloaded from the trailer, Cosmo and Yarrow started calling to her, so it's believed that they all knew each other! According to Ashley's post Lilac possibly could've even been the mom to one of them. They all perked up and started talking back and forth, which is really sweet. Cows are herd animals, which means that they love companionship and bond deeply with other cows. Once they were out of quarantine and came home to TOF, the two bulls were castrated, making them steers. 

When all of the surviving animals were rescued last July, Yarrow and Cosmo had fortunately been in a field that had lush seeded grass so they had access to something to eat and as a result they thankfully had good body scores when they were found. Both were transported and taken in by Last Chance Ranch (@lcanimalrescue) so that they could be dewormed and given vaccinations and much needed hoof trims. They were then both adopted to a private home together as companion animals/pets where they have huge fields to run around in and are well cared for and happy. *Regarding Hump, he passed away sometime in 2020/2021 at a hospital before all of Ashley's cruelty and neglect started.

*Lilac turned out to be pregnant when she was saved from the breeder, and she gave birth to the only baby that she would get to keep while she was at Twist of Fate. The baby was named Runner, and you can read their story here. 

Ashley DiFelice's next court date still has not been announced. I have emailed the prosecution team a couple of times already to see when it will be scheduled or why it is being delayed but so far haven't heard anything.
