🔴 TORTURE CANNOT BE RULED OUT DURING THE DETENTION OF AFRICAN AMERICAN JOURNALIST BILAL ABDUL KAREEM, WHO HAS BEEN DETAINED IN SYRIA WITHOUT CHARGE, WITHOUT TRIAL, OR ACCESS TO A LAWYER.
🚩 We know that some detainees have been subjected to torture in Syria. We cannot rule out the possibility that African American journalist Bilal Abdul Kareem may also have been subjected to torture, given that his OGNtv YouTube channel has been shut down, although it is unclear by whom. We have not had direct access to the channel since Bilal's arrest, we had been streaming through Restream.
🚩 During the most recent prison visit, after the OGNtv YouTube channel was shut down, Bilal had two sets of bars between himself and his wives. They were unable to hug him because he was out of reach. There are also restrictions on what Bilal is permitted to speak about during visits. He has no access to a lawyer, someone with whom he could speak freely about how he is being treated.
🚩 Until Bilal Abdul Kareem has undergone a full-body examination, including an inspection of all areas concealed by his clothing, conducted in the presence of his chosen lawyer, or by an independent medical professional approved by his lawyer with his chosen lawyer present, the possibility that he has been subjected to torture cannot be ruled out.

We want Bilal Abdul Kareem's case to receive the attention, the voice, and the support it deserves.
We are calling on people everywhere to stand together and demand justice for Bilal Abdul Kareem.
We call for:
• Immediate access to legal counsel of his choosing.
• Public clarification of any charges against him, if any exist.
• Independent monitoring to ensure his safety and well-being.
• His release unless he is promptly charged in accordance with internationally recognised legal standards.
