Thinking about this current, very ethically challenged Supreme Court, I truly mourn the demise of the Court's legitimacy in the public view. For me, and perhaps for you, this is sad beyond belief.

Growing up in the era of the Warren Court, I had true legal heroes: Thurgood Marshall, William O. Douglas, William Brennan, Whizzer White. While the Warren Court wasn't perfect (can you say "diversity?"), it seems a paragon of virtue in these days of overt corruption, proud bias, and anti-democratic decisions. Civil rights, human rights, criminal rights and basic equity were not being demolished by the Warren Court, they were being built and expanded. It was a court of progress, not of degenerate decline, as is the Roberts' Court.

However, my profound sadness about the destruction of what was once the most revered of American institutions, is tempered by my belief in basic human goodness and my faith in younger generations. So, for those who are lucky to be younger than I, here is the link to a Wikipedia overview of the Warren Court. May we one day have a new Court that will inspire and build our democracy in even greater ways. Thank you all who have signed this petition and please, keep spreading the word.
