Over the course of my lifetime, I have seen the inexorable chipping away of the work conducted by the Warren Court. Chief Justice Warren Burger and even Chief Justice William Rehnquist seem like quaint moderates in this era of the extremist John Roberts Court.

Roberts, Burger and Rehnquist were all Republicans, but so was Chief Justice Earl Warren. Who was this man who presided over, what seems now, a very progressive Court? Now, of course, (and you knew it was coming), I will ask the supporters of this petition to redouble their efforts to garner more signatures. Today, I reached out to a former admired colleague who I hadn't seen in 6 or 7 years. Whether this colleague signed or not, the pleasure I had in writing her and the even greater pleasure of receiving a warm reply, truly brightened my day and uplifted my spirits. This is a journey, my friends, and you might find that there are side benefits to fighting this good fight.
