Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Resources^

After five years of trying to resolve this—contacting lawyers, seeking legal guidance, and attempting to fully understand what happened in a broader context than myself—I’ve come to the difficult realization that, where I live, this issue simply isn’t treated as a priority. If it were, meaningful action would have been taken long ago. Instead, I’ve encountered mostly unanswered calls and deflections.

I also learned that the staff at the Virginia Sexual & Domestic Violence Action Alliance no longer offer legal services, as the funding and related project have ended. In practice, most avenues now lead to being referred to the Virginia State Bar, which has not proven to be a meaningful path for accountability in my experience. Similarly, the most ESCADV can do is take a report, document patterns, and offer guidance—such as having a support advocate accompany you to the magistrate. Meaningful legal consultation for a situation like this is, in effect, unavailable at the moment.

That said, I’ve decided to take action on my own, with the hope that it may help future survivors who go looking for answers. Because, realistically, this appears to be a pattern—not an isolated incident. I’m confident that since my report in 2020, others have likely been impacted in varying ways.

To that end, I’ve documented and shared information through the following platforms:
