Demand International Accountability for Cyberstalkers

Demand International Accountability for Cyberstalkers
The Issue
I, myself, and numerous other creators online, are a victim of persistent cyberstalking. For six agonising months, our tormentor, residing overseas, has instigated fear and distress through their actions: unrelenting threats to fly over to my country with the intent to rape and murder me, nonstop stalking of my social media accounts, a constant flurry of abusive messages. This torment can only lead to legal intervention IF they step foot into the UK, turning their threats into a physical danger. This loop-hole in the law puts victims, like myself, in a perilous situation. Emotional, mental, and potentially physical wellbeing are at risk due to cyberstalking and online abuse.
In the UK alone, the Office for National Statistics reported that there were approximately 1.5 million cases of stalking and harassment in the year ending March 2020 - a figure that excludes cyberstalking, which remains a prevalent and concerning issue. Unfortunately, current law only allows for the accountability of these cyber stalkers if they reside in the same country as their victims, offering no protection from those based internationally.
This petition seeks to change that, by demanding legislative amendments that make it possible for cyberstalkers, regardless of their location, to be held accountable for their actions and threats in a court of law. Perpetrators of such criminal activities should face charges by their local authorities. This is about demanding justice for victims and making the cyber world safer for everyone - adults and children alike.
Please, sign this petition and show your support for this much-needed change in legislation. Together, we can make a difference.
