We, a group of Iranian migrants and refugees, human rights activists, artists, and independent journalists, express our deep concern regarding the media coverage of Iran by certain international media outlets and prominent figures, including Christiane Amanpour, BBC Persian, and Voice of America Persian.

In numerous instances, this coverage has failed to clearly distinguish between the ruling authorities of the Islamic Republic, the Iranian people, and their genuine demands. Moreover, in many cases, instead of providing independent and accurate news reporting, news images and events have been presented alongside interpretive commentary and subjective framing, which may mislead audiences and divert them from an accurate understanding of realities on the ground. Such approaches risk producing distorted perceptions and marginalizing the lived experiences of those most affected.

Media impartiality does not mean silence in the face of injustice, nor does it mean equating the narratives of oppressors and victims. True impartiality requires a firm commitment to truth, professional ethics, and the responsible amplification of the people’s voices.

We call on Christiane Amanpour, BBC Persian, and Voice of America Persian to:

Uphold true impartiality and professional journalistic ethics

Accurately and responsibly reflect the voices of the Iranian people and victims of repression, without normalizing violence or repression

Avoid reproducing narratives that diminish, justify, or obscure systemic structures of oppression

Accordingly, we have decided on a conscious and civil boycott of certain media content and news platforms associated with the above-mentioned figures and outlets. This decision is not an act of hostility, but an ethical response intended to remind media institutions of their responsibility toward truth, accountability, and human dignity.

We invite civil society organizations, cultural institutions, and human rights groups to support and share this petition, helping to strengthen the collective voice of Iranian migrants and refugees worldwide.

This petition is a call to return to journalistic integrity, ethical responsibility, and respect for human dignity.

ما، گروهی از مهاجران و پناهندگان ایرانی، فعالان حقوق بشر، هنرمندان و روزنامه‌نگاران مستقل، نگرانی عمیق خود را نسبت به نحوه پوشش اخبار ایران توسط برخی رسانه‌های بین‌المللی و چهره‌های شناخته‌شده، از جمله کریستین امانپور، بی‌بی‌سی فارسی و صدای آمریکا فارسی، ابراز می‌کنیم.

در موارد بسیاری، این پوشش خبری نتوانسته است به‌روشنی میان حاکمیت جمهوری اسلامی، مردم ایران و مطالبات واقعی آنان تمایز قائل شود. افزون بر این، در بسیاری از موارد، به‌جای ارائه گزارش‌های مستقل و دقیق، تصاویر و رویدادهای خبری همراه با تفسیر و چارچوب‌بندی‌های ذهنی و جهت‌دار ارائه شده‌اند که می‌تواند مخاطبان را گمراه کرده و آنان را از درک درست واقعیت‌های میدانی منحرف سازد. چنین رویکردهایی خطر شکل‌گیری برداشت‌های تحریف‌شده و به‌حاشیه‌راندن تجربه زیسته افرادی را در پی دارد که بیش از همه تحت تأثیر این سرکوب‌ها قرار دارند.

بی‌طرفی رسانه‌ای به‌معنای سکوت در برابر بی‌عدالتی نیست و همچنین به‌معنای هم‌تراز دانستن روایت ستمگران و قربانیان نیست. بی‌طرفی واقعی مستلزم پایبندی قاطع به حقیقت، اخلاق حرفه‌ای و بازتاب مسئولانه صدای مردم است.

ما از کریستین امانپور، بی‌بی‌سی فارسی و صدای آمریکا فارسی می‌خواهیم که:

به بی‌طرفی واقعی و اصول حرفه‌ای روزنامه‌نگاری پایبند باشند
صدای مردم ایران و قربانیان سرکوب را به‌طور دقیق و مسئولانه بازتاب دهند، بدون آن‌که خشونت و سرکوب را عادی‌سازی کنند
از بازتولید روایت‌هایی که ساختارهای نظام‌مند ستم را کم‌اهمیت جلوه می‌دهد، توجیه می‌کند یا پنهان می‌سازد، پرهیز کنند
بر این اساس، ما تصمیم گرفته‌ایم برخی از محتوای رسانه‌ای و پلتفرم‌های خبری وابسته به افراد و رسانه‌های یادشده را به‌صورت آگاهانه و مدنی تحریم کنیم. این تصمیم نه از سر خصومت، بلکه پاسخی اخلاقی است برای یادآوری مسئولیت رسانه‌ها در قبال حقیقت، پاسخگویی و کرامت انسانی.

ما از سازمان‌های جامعه مدنی، نهادهای فرهنگی و گروه‌های حقوق بشری دعوت می‌کنیم که با حمایت و بازنشر این دادخواست، به تقویت صدای جمعی مهاجران و پناهندگان ایرانی در سراسر جهان کمک کنند.

این دادخواست فراخوانی است برای بازگشت به صداقت حرفه‌ای در روزنامه‌نگاری، مسئولیت اخلاقی و احترام به کرامت انسانی.
