I wish to express my revulsion at the recent developments involving Archbishop Justin Welby of Canterbury.

On the 12th of November 2024, Welby announced his resignation amid intense pressure from various factions within the Church of England and from public opinion. Yet despite this pressure, the seriousness of his position seems to have been lost upon him. On 5th December, Welby offered his final remarks to the House of Lords. It is clear that little, if any, remorse or understanding was shown by the Head of the Church of England. His light-hearted manner only served to exacerbate the trauma experienced by survivors within the church that he governed.

Archbishop Justin Welby's behaviour is not only a personal affront to many, but it directly contradicts the very principles upon which the Church of England is founded. The Church has a longstanding responsibility to offer support and comfort to all its followers, and this behaviour grossly undermines its mission. This petition seeks not only to demand Archbishop Justin Welby's IMMEDIATE resignation but also to call for greater accountability, compassion, and understanding from church leaders, in order to offer healing and reassurance to their congregation.
