I moved into Ashlawn at Southern Towers, Alexandria, VA, on April 28th, and was stunned to find that the reality of living here was very different from what was promised. The air conditioning does not function properly, often resulting in unbearable heat and humidity which facilitates the growth of mold. Additionally, there is a distressing cockroach infestation, which was never disclosed prior to my move-in.

These issues are not just an inconvenience; they pose serious health risks and severely affect the quality of life for all residents. Prolonged exposure to mold can lead to respiratory issues, allergies, and other health complications, especially harmful to children and elderly residents. Cockroaches are known carriers of various diseases and their presence can trigger allergic reactions and asthmatic symptoms.

We pay a premium to live in Southern Towers, expecting quality living conditions, but instead, we find ourselves struggling against preventable problems. It is imperative that management at Ashlawn address these issues immediately. The necessary repairs to our air conditioning systems need to be made without delay, and a comprehensive pest control treatment is overdue.

It's time for the management to take responsibility and fulfill their obligations to their tenants. Residents of Ashlawn deserve a safe, clean, and comfortable environment to call home. By taking immediate action, Southern Towers can restore trust and ensure well-being for its community. The landlord is bound by duty of habitability of the Virginia Residential Landlord Tenant Act, according to Virginia Code Section 55.1-1220.
