Demand immediate reform to Canada’s immigration processing times
Demand immediate reform to Canada’s immigration processing times
The Issue
This isn’t just one person’s story — it’s the story of tens of thousands of people around the world who placed their trust in Canada's immigration system. These are families waiting to be reunited, skilled workers who received job offers but now face years of uncertainty, entrepreneurs ready to create jobs in Canada but stuck in limbo, and students and refugees waiting for decisions that could define their futures. Many of these people have already waited years. Some are now being told they may have to wait a decade or more — with processing times for certain programs estimated at 420 months (35 years).
Their lives are on hold. Children grow up without parents. Career opportunities vanish. Mental health suffers. All while these individuals are willing and ready to contribute to Canadian society — economically, socially, and culturally. They are not just application numbers. They are people. And they deserve better.
Immigration processing times in Canada are spiraling out of control, with some applications now taking over 10 years and in extreme cases, an estimated 420 months (35 years). These delays are affecting nearly all immigration programs — including family reunification, skilled workers, entrepreneurs, refugees, and international students. Families remain separated, economic opportunities are lost, and applicants are left in limbo for years with no clear timeline.
Canada's immigration system is vital to the country's economy, society, and future. Yet it is presently failing those who trusted in its fairness and efficiency. We are calling on Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) and the Government of Canada to take immediate and decisive action to rectify this broken system, reduce backlogs, and ensure timely, transparent processing for all immigration applicants.
The consequences of this delay are profound and far-reaching — from separated families, lost economic opportunities, to a dampened Canadian spirit of openness and diversity. We ask that the IRCC establish clear and realistic timelines for processing, increase transparency regarding application statuses, and provide additional resources to handle existing backlogs. It is essential to restore faith in this critical system, ensuring it reflects Canada's values of fairness, inclusivity, and opportunity.
Please sign this petition to urge the Government of Canada and IRCC to prioritize immigration processing reform and help reunite families, empower job seekers, support entrepreneurs, and offer certainty to all waiting applicants.
