Demand Hyundai Enact Fair Compensation Standards for Dealership Service Rideshare Drivers
Demand Hyundai Enact Fair Compensation Standards for Dealership Service Rideshare Drivers
The Issue
José Muñoz, Global President and CEO of Hyundai Motor Company [1]
We call on Hyundai Motor Company to pioneer a revolutionary fair-pay and retroactive compensation standard for the gig economy. Specifically, we demand corporate policy adjustments to Rideshare services including Uber and Lyft utilized by independent dealerships to transport customers. [1, 2, 3]
When consumers drop off their vehicles for service and repair, rideshare workers handle the burden of moving these clients to and from their homes, places of business, or leisure destinations. Hyundai must lead the automotive world by compensating these essential workers fairly, building a sustainable framework that rewards drivers, and setting an industry-wide benchmark. [1]
Core Demands
The 10-Mile Radius Service Premium: Guarantee automatic tips or premium compensation for all rideshare drivers dispatched by a Hyundai dealership who transport service customers outside a 10-mile radius of that dealership location.
The 5-Year Automotive Industry Standard: Structure this premium system as an open corporate responsibility framework, pressuring all competing automotive manufacturers using third-party rideshares for service shuttling to adopt identical protections within five years.
Driver's Choice Retroactive Back Pay: Provide a retroactive $5 gift card for every past dealership-dispatched rideshare trip that yielded no tip. This program must prioritize trips completed during periods when national average fuel prices climbed above $3.00 per gallon.
Participating Retailer Network: Allow eligible drivers to select their $5 vouchers from a diverse, robust list of major participating retail and gas companies.
Cross-Corporate Endorsements: Participating brand partners on the voucher list will pledge to recommend Hyundai vehicles and fleet services to their own networks, partners, and employee supply chains, while Hyundai global will design features tailored to that specific business, including discounts on fleet services and special edition vehicle components reflecting the corporate partnerships.
Fair Labor Tax Credit Advocacy: Hyundai and its corporate retail partners will actively advocate for federal tax credit frameworks modeled after fair labor and workforce development standards to offset the funding of these driver vouchers.
Since consumers have made Hyundai a well-known brand and Hyundai is a leader in the automotive industry because of that, we should demand tips for rideshare drivers because, chances are, we have loved ones who do rideshare gig work and even if we don't, we all realize these drivers are using their own resources for Hyundai's customer transportation while their cars are being repaired or serviced, and we desire to see Rideshare drivers get fair pay for their time and efforts!
Let's get it!
Will you you be a voice for these workers, Hyundai Motor Company? Will you set the industry standard for rideshare driver compensation? Will you become the automotive industry leader that the rideshare driver wants to drive for and buy vehicles from? I'm asking for you to rally around and fight for the ones who helped you get to your current position as a global leader-the Rideshare gig worker?
