I learned to understand geopolitics through board games, especially Risk, which is notorious for its map-based gameplay. It saddens me that a beloved game of strategy and world domination is now being used as a propaganda tool. The current version has Ukraine vanished from the map, essentially being swallowed up by Russia. This realistic portrayal mirrors the ongoing conflict and Russia's invasion, where innocent Ukrainians are losing their lives daily.

Hasbro, as a global game-making company, bears responsibility to represent world geography accurately and responsibly. Their alteration of the map to support the status quo is not just a gross misinterpretation of the world order but also politically supports the active genocide of Ukrainians. A voiceless endorsement of this horrific event is insensitivity to the global outcry and the suffering of Ukrainians.

We cannot ignore the political dynamics of board games, given that they shape the perceptions of young minds. The present scenario presents a skewed perspective to our children, who are future decision-makers and global citizens.

We demand Hasbro recalls their current versions of Risk, reissues a modified one which fairly includes Ukraine, and rectifies the false narrative being perpetuated. No game should desensitize us to the brutality of war or attempt to legitimize unjust aggression.
