As a Greek-Cypriot, I am deeply disturbed by the misrepresentation of our rich historical heritage in popular media. The TV series Troy and Alexander on Netflix are prime examples of such distortion. These series fail to accurately portray historical figures and appear to be mocking of our cultural heritage. The reviews on IMDb are a clear indication of population resentment.

Greece is home to 18 UNESCO World Heritage Sites, a testament to its significant cultural impact throughout history. However, the portrayal of this heritage in popular media is often oversimplified or romanticized for entertainment purposes. This not only misleads viewers but also disrespects the legacy left by our ancestors.

The Greek government has an obligation to protect and preserve its historical heritage. This includes ensuring accurate representation in all forms of media. We urge them to take immediate action against these misleading portrayals, same as Egyptian government acted in regards to Cleopatra TV show. Here we see the same situation, Alexander TV show is claiming to be a historical documentary, which misleads people and causes dishonour to our culture.

Furthermore, we call upon Netflix as a global streaming platform with over 200 million subscribers worldwide (source: Statista) to exercise responsibility in their content selection process. The removal of series like Troy and Alexander will demonstrate respect for cultures they represent on their platform.
