Happy Saturday!

Short update.  We have over 25 thousand signatures (25,931 to be exact). We are 26k strong with one voice!

This is a bypartisan movement! I remain politically neutral. You will never see (D) or (R) next to your name.  If your not doing your job, I am calling you out!

Democrats has enjoyed FULL POWER SINCE 2011 - Gov, Senate and House

Majority Leaders refuse to meet with the Republican who called for an emergency session regarding our insane electric bill

Senator Needleman (and others) refuse to take any ownership of this crisis - I wasn't a member blah blah blah - Well, your here now!

No mention of the "socialist tax" because of non paying customers, we now have to pay, since Gov Lamont kept us in COVID protocol for 4 years

They continuing to blame the house minority  - Republicans (that has a solution)

There is no accountability in Connecticut

We are the 2nd highest in the nation's electric from Darienite. Please read it here

Misdirection responses are an insult to our intelligence!

The real disconnect between Gov and real Connecticut citizens is astounding!

Bottom line -  Take ownership of your mistakes. You represent us now. - Stop with the Millstone project. Stop with excuses!  YOU made this mess - YOU just need to fix this NOW! Take some responsibility! We are pissed! - END OF STORY

Now the letter:

************************************************************

Dear Renee,

I appreciate you taking the time to write to me regarding the public benefits charge on your utility bill. Please understand that the majority (77%) of the increase that we are experiencing on our utility bills is NOT a result of the shut-off moratorium, or any other public assistance program. The majority of the large of the increase that we’re seeing is because of a contract that the State of Connecticut signed with the Millstone Nuclear Power Plant in Waterford, CT.

This contract was spearheaded by the Republican delegation in Southeastern Connecticut and received bipartisan support in our legislature. Our state signed the contract in 2019, and it’ll be active until 2029. At certain points, this contract has saved ratepayers money like in the beginning of last year when natural gas prices spiked, and it’s also cost ratepayers money like were seeing now.

I was not a member of the legislature when this bill was passed, but I understand why my Republican colleagues thought it was important to keep the Millstone power plant open and I likely would’ve supported that deal as well. For reference, it looks like your state Senator, Sen. Eric Berthel, voted in favor of the bill in 2017.

With that in mind, around 20% of this increase is a result of the system benefits charge which covers the following assistance programs: (cost of public education, hardship programs, new low-income discount rate, COVID shutoff moratorium). I’m happy to keep your thoughts in mind on these policies, but I felt that the moratorium was important during the Covid-19 pandemic to help safeguard the most vulnerable residents in our state. The moratorium was put in place for a global pandemic, and has now ended.
Thank you for your time, please let me know if you have any questions.
Norm

Some findings from Nancy Hurd at the Darienite.com

  • Connecticut has the third-highest estimated monthly commercial electric bill, averaging $1,251.17
  • Connecticut has the fifth-highest cost per kilowatt-hour (20 cents)
  • Connecticut experienced a 28% increase in monthly costs from August 2021 to August 2022th

Thank you all for your signatures - keep fighting this - we are 1/4 of the way there! share this petition. We will not tolerate this insanity.
