The Issue

I am a local resident 35 + years  and like many others, my anxiety rockets every time I approach the notorious Black Barns junction. This junction, where the B4077 and B4078 intersect, has been the site of countless life-altering accidents and tragic fatalities over the years. It's a known blackspot with poor visibility that makes every crossing feel like a dangerous game of chance.

The community is calling for long-overdue urgent action for safety improvements at this location - be it through installing traffic lights or constructing a roundabout.

It is high time that we take action against this ongoing threat to our community's safety. We demand that Tewkesbury Borough Council/Gloucestershire Highways department urgently addresses the dangerous conditions at the Black Barns junction before another life is needlessly lost or forever changed.

According to Gloucestershire Highways Department website, "The Road Safety Data Team regularly review the collision data from the police to determine the junctions and roads, which would benefit most if improved." How has this junction never been addressed? It goes on to say to contact your local councillor, parish or town council who is in regular contact with the highways authority. WHY SHOULD THIS EVEN BE NECESSARY? Surely the police data would corroborate the urgent need for change. And surely you'd also expect local councillors to be WELL AWARE of this local blackspot and the life changing events that have occurred there and for action to be taken well before now.

Further more, whenever I try to contact councillors you just receive an automated reply, which is why a petition is needed. Interestingly Tewkesbury: Winchcombe and Woodmancote Councillor is Conservative Cabinet Member for Environment and Planning.

According to data from Road Safety Foundation (2019), 60% of all road deaths in Britain occur on just 10% of roads - which includes our very own Black Barns junction. We cannot allow this statistic to continue growing due to negligence or lackadaisical attitudes towards road safety.

Please sign this petition if you believe in prioritizing this crucial safety improvement and want your voice heard by those who can make a difference. Together, we can bring about change.
