I write to you as someone who identifies as Genderfluid. The societal norm of being forced to use a restroom that does not align with my identity simply because of my outward appearance, sparks within me an immense feeling of dysphoria. Every day, countless others in the LGBTQ+ community and I experience this uncomfortable scenario. It's for this reason we urgently need your support to make gender-neutral toilets recommended in public spaces such as restaurants, and mandatory in government buildings.

Gender-neutral bathrooms are not just about physical comfort, but about recognizing, respecting, and protecting the identities of all individuals. They are an acknowledgment of the vast spectrum of human experiences and identities. Although my story is just one amongst many, it resonates with countless others who face the same public discomfort daily.

Unfortunately, much of the public, as well as policymakers, are unaware of the psychological distress and discrimination that individuals like me face. A 2013 Williams Institute research study found that 70% of respondents have been denied access, were harassed or even assaulted when trying to use a restrooms that aligns with their gender identity.

By making gender-neutral restrooms mandatory in government buildings and recommended in other public spaces, our society would make a significant step toward inclusivity, which will make individuals like me feel seen and accepted.
