Despite years of residents raising concerns about road safety on Chalkers Lane, our street has been excluded from the proposed extension of the 20mph zone in the immediate area.

There are multiple incidents every year where cars crash on this small residential road, often ending up on verges or even in gardens.

In recent years two children have been hit by cars and at least one cyclist has been knocked off their bike on this stretch.

Despite repeatedly raising these concerns, and suggesting safety measures such as lowering the speed limit and installing speed bumps, Chalkers Lane has been left out of the current proposal to reduce speed limits across Hurstpierpoint!

We only have until 12 March to submit comments, so if you have just one minute, please help us appeal this decision by objecting and leaving a comment asking that all of Chalkers Lane is included in the 20mph extension.

You can do this here:
https://www.westsussex.gov.uk/roads-and-travel/traffic-regulation-orders/live-consultations-for-permanent-tros/mid-sussex-live-tro-consultations/

Click “Comment on an order”, then “Continue without setting up an account”, enter the following:

Scheme consultation name:
Hurstpierpoint: Village-wide 20MPH Limit

Consultation reference number:
MDS-8014-MM

If you’d like to further support the campaign, please share our petition to install a footpath along this dangerous stretch of road.

Thank you for helping us make Chalkers Lane safer for residents, cyclists, and children.
