I am writing with further information regarding the Safety Recall that General Motors Australia and New Zealand Pty Ltd trading as GM Specialty Vehicles (GMSV) has issued relating to certain Silverado 1500 vehicles.
As previously advised, a small number of L87 engines fitted to Silverado 1500 vehicles from model year 2021 to model year 2024 may have a manufacturing defect that may impact the operation of the connecting rod and/or crankshaft, and potentially lead to engine damage, and in some cases, engine failure.
If the engine has such a manufacturing defect, the driver may be alerted to the existence of the defect by the engine warning light appearing on the instrument cluster, or by engine hesitation, abnormal shifting, reduced propulsion or a failure to start. It is also possible that the engine could fail during vehicle operation, which would cause the vehicle to lose propulsion, which may increase the risk of a crash.
We are pleased to inform you that GMSV Dealers now have the necessary GM equipment to conduct an inspection of your vehicle’s engine. If your vehicle has had the recall procedures completed recently, no further action is required. If your vehicle has had the engine changed recently, the GMSV dealer will first check the engine serial number to confirm it is within the potentially affected production dates and if it is not, no further action is necessary.
All other engines will be inspected, and if satisfactory will be provided a higher viscosity oil which will also require a new oil fill cap, an oil filter replacement, and an insert to go into the vehicle handbook. If the engine does not pass inspection, arrangements will be made for the engine to be replaced and your GMSV Dealership will work with you to minimize any inconvenience during this period.
Once the GMSV Dealership has completed these procedures on your vehicle, its engine will receive Special Coverage of 10 years or 240,000 Km (whichever occurs first) for any occurrence of this issue, starting from the date the new vehicle was first purchased or registered. This Special Coverage does not affect your consumer guarantee rights under the Australian Consumer Law.
Please contact your nearest GMSV Dealership - Suttons Chullora GMSV on 02 9642 0233 to arrange an appointment for the Dealer to carry out these procedures. All GMSV Dealerships can perform these procedures, so please visit our website at https://www.gmspecialtyvehicles.com/ to locate your preferred GMSV Dealership if it’s more convenient.
