A Call for Accountability, Democratic Leadership and a Fair Election Process
The decision to defer the proposed three-day nationwide bank strike of 28th, 29th and 30th September, after extensive mobilisation and preparation by bank employees across the country, has raised serious questions about leadership accountability and the democratic functioning of our organisations.
Thousands of bankers prepared themselves to stand together for their long-pending demands. When such a major collective action is withdrawn at the eleventh hour, the membership deserves a clear, transparent and convincing explanation.
This is not merely about one strike or one decision. It is about trust, accountability and the future of the trade-union movement.
A leadership that takes decisions affecting lakhs of employees must remain accountable to its membership. The members who give their time, energy and professional commitment to the movement deserve meaningful participation in major decisions.
