As a resident of Panama, I am witnessing the devastating impact of First Quantum Minerals' open-sky mining operations on our environment and society. This Canadian company is causing significant environmental degradation and social unrest in our country. Despite being based in Canada, known for its stringent environmental laws, it seems they are not adhering to these regulations here.

First Quantum Minerals' activities have led to the destruction of vast tracts of land, pollution of water bodies, and displacement of local communities. The World Health Organization has stated that such practices can lead to serious health issues among local populations due to exposure to harmful substances (WHO).

This issue is personal for me as it directly affects my home and our planet. We need immediate action from both the Panamanian and Canadian government and also from our international communities.
