Demand Faster Trials for Minor Rape Cases by Establishing POCSO Courts

Demand Faster Trials for Minor Rape Cases by Establishing POCSO Courts
The Issue
As a concerned member of society, I am deeply affected by the increasing instances of rape against minor girls in our nation. It's personal, it's societal, it's a global issue that demands urgent attention. Our justice system is deeply flawed in dealing with these heinous crimes. Cases often languish in courts for years, exacerbating the trauma for the victims and their families.
The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act was established in 2012 to provide a robust legal framework in dealing with these crimes. Still, its effectiveness is often hampered by a lackadaisical approach to trials. These crimes must be met with swift justice, and we demand the establishment of fast trial courts devoted to POCSO cases. We also propose the implementation of a six-month time limit for these trials.
According to the National Crime Records Bureau, in 2019 alone, there were 48,127 reported cases of child rape in India, an increase by about 4.6% from the previous year. These numbers are horrifying and indicate the urgency of the crisis at hand.
It is time that we, as a society, stood up for the most vulnerable, demanding justice and protection for them. By signing this petition, you would be contributing towards accelerating the delivery of justice and perhaps deterring future heinous acts. Thank you for standing up for what's right; let's make our voices heard. Please sign this petition.
