Why this matters:

As hard-working Australian families, we are at breaking point. Energy companies are relentlessly increasing our electricity bills while simultaneously slashing the value of our solar feed-in tariffs. This predatory behavior is making a mockery of our efforts to embrace renewable energy and is directly contributing to the cost-of-living crisis.

Enough is Enough!

We recently received notification from AGL (and we know many of you have experienced similar from other providers) that from July 1st, 2025, our electricity rates are going up significantly, while the payment we receive for the clean energy our solar panels generate is being drastically cut.

  • General usage rates: Increasing from 29.55 cents to 33.77 cents per kWh
  • Solar Feed-in Tariff: Plummeting from 5.0 cents to a mere 3.0 cents per kWh
  • Supply Charge: Also rising from $147.78 to $152.51

This is not sustainable. We invested in solar to save money and contribute to a cleaner future, but now it feels like we are being penalized for it. Energy companies are profiting massively from our rooftop solar, selling our excess energy back to us at inflated prices, while paying us next to nothing for it. This isn't a partnership; it's exploitation.

What are our politicians doing?

Minister Chris Bowen and the government repeatedly state they are trying to ease the cost of living. Yet, they continue to allow these energy giants to operate unchecked, leaving Australian families to bear the brunt. It's time for the government to step in and regulate this industry to protect consumers, not just corporate profits.

Our Call to Action: Join the National Solar Turn-Off Week!

To demonstrate the critical reliance energy companies have on our household solar generation, we are calling for a National Solar Turn-Off Week, commencing July 1st, 2025.

How to participate:

From July 1st, 2025 (or as close as you can get to it), simply turn off your solar inverter for the entire week. This simple act will:

  • Reduce the amount of solar energy being fed into the grid by residential systems.
  • Force energy companies to source more expensive power from other sources, impacting their bottom line.
  • Send a clear, unified message that we will not be taken for a ride any longer.

This is not just about our pockets; it's about fairness and accountability.

We demand:

  • Government intervention to regulate energy prices and prevent unjustified increases.
  • Fair and equitable solar feed-in tariffs that genuinely reflect the value of the clean energy we generate.
  • Transparency from energy companies regarding their pricing structures and profits.
  • An end to the exploitation of hard-working Australian families by the energy sector.

Sign this petition and commit to turning off your solar inverter from July 1st, 2025, to send a powerful message to energy companies and the government. It's time for Australians to stand up to these bullies!
