My personal utilities bill has soared from $165 to an overwhelming $835, despite no change in my household's water usage. Such a steep hike has placed me and my family in a precarious position, where living in Williston may no longer be feasible if this trend continues. Tragically, many families in our community are experiencing even harsher impacts, with some being charged as much as $1500 to $2000 a month. In such cases, they face an impossible choice between paying exorbitant bills or uprooting their lives.

The City of Williston defends this drastic action by claiming that without raising water bills, the city will face financial hardships as stated in the November 14th 2024 Interview with WCJB TV 20 News. However, at the same time, there have been substantial increases in salaries and wages within the city's administration over the last 4 years according to the most recently posted City of Williston's Annual Audit. This discrepancy raises serious concerns about the true necessity behind these billing increases and the prioritization of fiscal management in our city.

While understanding the budgetary needs of the city is crucial, it cannot come at the overwhelming expense of its residents' financial well-being and stability. We urge the city officials to halt the disproportionate water billing immediately and seek alternative methods to address financial concerns without unfairly burdening its residents.
