My pal, like many others in Alberta, recently experienced an alarming increase in his utility bill. His average bill of $400 has suddenly jumped to over $900 for the December - January period. This is not an isolated incident; neighbors and homeowners across the region are reporting similar shocking increases.

Epcor, our utility provider, has yet to provide a satisfactory explanation for these sudden and dramatic price hikes. In a time when many Albertans are already struggling with economic uncertainty due to the ongoing pandemic, such unexpected expenses can be devastating.

According to Statistics Canada, Albertans already pay some of the highest utility bills in the country (Statistics Canada). It's unacceptable that we now face even higher costs without clear justification or prior warning.

We call on Epcor and relevant regulatory bodies to investigate these recent price increases immediately. We demand transparency about how our utility rates are calculated and assurances that we will not be subject to such drastic cost increases without proper notice or explanation again.
