Like many Canadians, I am a responsible car owner and driver. I've done everything right, maintained a spotless driving record for the past 8 years, and my car is fully paid off. However, the rising costs of car insurance premiums have made car ownership a financial burden for me. I am shouldering a whopping $500 per month, an expense that has become increasingly hard to bear. This issue is not just personal for me, it is an issue that impacts many car owners across provinces.

The stark reality is that premiums seem to be rising irrespective of an individual's driving record, making it harder for common citizens like you and me to own a car. According to a report by Canadian Underwriter, average auto insurance rates in Ottawa, Ontario increased by 9.7% in the past year alone. Similar trends have been noticed in other parts of the country too, pushing the cost of owning a car higher and higher.

This is why I am urging the Federal and Provincial governments to intervene. Our governments must ensure that car insurance companies revisit these non-affordable premiums, and work towards implementing a fair and equitable rate system for all drivers. It shouldn't be this hard to afford automotive insurance, especially for those of us who dutifully follow the rules of the road.
