Demand Facebook and Instagram to stop content censorship

The Issue

I have personally experienced the unfairness of social media censorship. My posts, which aim to expose and criticize the enforcement of immigration policies in America and war crimes by Israel, have repeatedly been restricted or removed. This suppression prevents important dialogues from reaching wider audiences and stifles voices that challenge the status quo.

Censorship on platforms like Facebook and Instagram undermines the principles of free speech and inhibits the dissemination of critical information that is essential for social awareness and change. While these platforms have claimed to uphold community standards, the implementation of these rules has often been inconsistent and biased—largely impacting posts that oppose powerful institutions or controversial governmental actions.

According to a 2022 report by the Center for Democracy and Technology, over 70% of the content moderation decisions on social media platforms are opaque and leave users without a clear understanding of why their content was restricted or removed. Furthermore, many users report that appeals to these decisions are frequently ignored or denied with generic responses. This lack of transparency exacerbates the censorship problem, leaving activists and concerned citizens in the dark.

Without open discourse, change cannot happen. The silencing of voices opposing immigration enforcement and highlighting war crimes is a blatant violation of free expression, one of the core rights in democratic societies.

We demand that Facebook and Instagram immediately revise their content moderation policies to ensure fairness, transparency, and respect for free speech. This includes providing clear reasons for posts that are restricted, allowing for meaningful appeals, and ensuring policies do not disproportionately affect certain viewpoints.

Join me in urging Facebook and Instagram to stop this unjust censorship that stifles necessary dialogue and undermines our rights. Please sign this petition to voice your support for change.
