Demand Ethical Investigation and Proper Management at Macon Water Authority

Demand Ethical Investigation and Proper Management at Macon Water Authority
The Issue
As a customer of the Macon Water Authority, I've watched the board vote again and again to raise my water rates. Meanwhile, I've also witnessed the degradation of our water infrastructure without any discernible improvements made in response. As a longtime resident of East Macon, I have seen multiple times the neighborhoods flood easily with rain and stay flooded for days with no drainage. This personal experience is not only frustrating but also raises doubts and fears about the ethics, accountability and financial operations at the Authority.
This petition also urges the Macon Water Authority to launch an internal investigation into possible racism occurring during board meetings. Our two black board members are constantly subject to unfair mockery during meetings. It is imperative for an organization of such stature to commit to fairness, integrity, and respect, including the absence of any discriminatory behavior.
Furthermore, a Grand Jury investigation into the authority's financial state and overall operations is sought. Worries have been surfacing about the reasons behind the constant unreasonable rate increases, and this investigation could potentially shed light on these concerns. As the public, we also have a right to see how our tax money is being spent.
The current model of holding only a single board meeting per month is inadequate. To enhance transparency, boost accountability, and stimulate progress, a shift to two board meetings per month is requested. More frequent meetings will ensure that issues are highlighted and resolved in a timely manner, leading to improved service and efficiency.
This change is important not just for me, but for all customers who rely on the Macon Water Authority for their water needs. What we demand is fair rates, accountable leadership, and better management.
Please sign this petition to stand with us, the customers, as we demand transparency, accountability, and ethical practices within the Macon Water Authority.
