This petition stems from a deeply personal experience of inequality. Men, myself included, are being unfairly treated under the human rights charter, resulting in an unjust removal of children from their fathers. It's imperative we address this issue and push for change in our justice and governance system. 

In the past year alone, there has been a sharp increase in the number of children separated from their fathers due to biased judgments in family violence cases (Source: National Coalition for Men). These judgments often overlook the fact that 1 in 7 men has experienced severe physical violence by an intimate partner (Source: National Domestic Violence Hotline). This perception that men cannot be victims of family violence leads to unfair treatment under the human rights charter.

Family violence includes psychological abuse and with suicide being the number one cause of death in males in Australia it’s about time these victims are recognised in the statistics of family violence. In 2022 alone 2,455 men suicided and 794 females. It’s realistic to expect that many of these were related to family violence. 

We cannot ignore these statistics or the stories of countless men unfairly affected. It’s not just about legal fairness; it's about the emotional toll on the children involved, torn from their fathers in traumatic circumstances. It's time for us to push for judicial reform to achieve equal treatment for men in family violence cases.
