Demand Equal Internet Access Policies from WCPSS for Political Websites
The Issue
I, like many others in our school community, have faced restriction in accessing valuable information from the NC GOP website. We are currently unable to view NC.GOP on school computers, making it harder to engage with partisan political discourse and educational content provided by the site. Interestingly, access to the NC Democrats website remains unrestricted. This contrasting treatment is concerning, as it might indicate a subtle bias in educational resources and tools in our school system. Education should encourage a full spectrum of political understanding and engagement and not veer towards any one political ideology. This is not just a personal issue - it impacts all students who wish to explore varying political viewpoints. The Office of Educational Technology reports that students who have access to a broad range of resources can better understand complex issues, such as politics, and better prepare themselves for civic engagement. We must ensure that no political party's resources are unfairly blocked from view. Let's call upon the Wake County Public School System (WCPSS) to either unblock the NC GOP website or apply the same restrictions to the NC Democrats website, so as to uphold the principle of fairness and non-partisanship in our educational space. Stand up for equal internet access. Sign and share this petition today.
