Demand DOJ investigation into New York's 2A infringements
The Issue
As a law-abiding gun owner residing in New York, I find myself in a perplexing and frustrating situation. The very rights that are guaranteed to me by the Second Amendment are being systematically undermined by a convoluted web of state and city regulations. The disparity in licensing requirements and practices—especially those developed under the leadership of Governor Kathy Hochul—has led to widespread infringements on our constitutional rights.
The bureaucratic nightmare starts with excessive licensing fees that can be financially crippling, followed by a labyrinthine process filled with delays that extend far beyond what’s remotely reasonable. In New York, a legal firearm in one county might land you in jail in another—merely due to a difference in local regulations. It’s a situation that turns law-abiding citizens into inadvertent criminals, stripping them of their rights and instilling a constant fear of unknowing infringement.
This lack of uniformity in laws and regulations not only undermines the federal protections promised by the Constitution but also creates a perilous scenario for responsible gun owners who simply wish to exercise their rights. Ironically, while the state professes to provide safety and regulation, it paradoxically obstructs the very freedoms they purport to protect.
It’s time we demand accountability and uniformity in our state’s approach to the Second Amendment. Therefore, I urge the Department of Justice to launch a comprehensive investigation into the practices of New York State, New York City, and the regulations imposed by Kathy Hochul's administration. We need clarity, consistency, and adherence to our constitutional rights, not a patchwork of unwritten rules and arbitrary enforcement that varies from one agency to the next.
By signing this petition, you’ll be taking a stand for the consistent application of the Second Amendment, ensuring that no citizen is unjustly persecuted for exercising their fundamental rights. Sign now to demand that the DOJ steps in to scrutinize these disparities and restore our rightful freedoms.
