Demand Disney to let Ridley Scott make the Alien Prometheus sequels

The Issue

By Making Prometheus and its sequel Alien: Covenant, Ridley Scott took the Alien franchise to a new and intelligent direction to explore big ideas such as the origin and creation of humankind and Xenomorphs, thus making the Alien movies much more than just a vehicle for survival action and gore. With the recent Alien: Romulus directed by Fede Álvarez, Disney has reversed everything by taking the franchise to its roots, by essentially making a dumb, B-grade action/thriller movie.

The visionary filmmaker Ridley Scott made the landmark sci-fi film Alien in 1979. He returned to the franchise with the fifth entry in the series Prometheus (2012) and Alien: Covenant (2017). With these two films, Ridley Scott pushed the boundaries of the Alien franchise and took it to a new direction as these films beautifully captivated complex ideas, exploring significant themes such as creation and the origin of humankind and Xenomorphs. By doing so, Scott moved away from the conventional "survival action and gore" theme and converted the Alien movies into thought-provoking cinema. However, with the recent release of Alien: Romulus directed by Fede Álvarez, Disney disappointingly went back to the franchise's roots, reverting it into a basic, B-grade action/thriller film. While it may please a section of the audience, it blatantly disregards Ridley Scott's unique contribution to the Alien franchise and the fans who have for decades cherished and loved the franchise.

As noted in multiple interviews of his, Ridley Scott wanted to make a trilogy of the Prometheus storyline sequels, of which only the first film (Alien: Covenant) was let made. Unfortunately, due to the modest success of Alien: Covenant, the rest two films were apparently not given a green-light from the studio (then 20th Century Fox). Alien fans worldwide would like to see how Ridley Scott envisioned the franchise and to finish his story. We urge Disney to acknowledge this and let Ridley Scott make the Prometheus sequels.
