This is important:

If you are an Albertan, either living in the province or living away, who is not comfortable with the current provincial government's ties to the far right, know that Canada supports you and you do not stand alone.

If you are from another province or territory, please sign and leave a message showing Alberta that you support them. Alberta is full of good people and wishing them well in their struggle will go a long way towards helping them overcome this.

I am deeply worried about the safety and security of Canada and how the leadership within the province of Alberta is responding to the threats. Alberta is currently led by Premier Danielle Smith, whose recent actions have caused great concern within the province and across the country. Smith has opted to use taxpayer monies to attend a fundraiser for PragerU, a company that downplays slavery, publishes misinformation and distorts historical events. Neither Shapiro's far-right stance or PragerU's misinformation and misrepresentation align with the values of Canadians or those of Alberta.

Shapiro has also advocated for The USA to take control of Canada and in his plans Canadians would have no vote in elections and simply be a colony, forced to do as the imperialistic USA dictates. The whole notion of appeasement has not worked in the past, nor is it justification in the current scenario where we know Canada is under threat. Smith's previous trips have not resulted in a reduction of tariffs or a thawing of relations; all they have accomplished is to divide Alberta and divide Canada.

Smith's attendance at the fundraiser, her courting of a figure who wants to occupy our country and her recent interview where she openly speaks of inviting a foreign government to interfere in Canadian politics all illustrate that she:

-Is not fit to represent Canada

-Does not understand what it means to be Albertan or Canadian

-Is not fit to represent the people of Alberta

This is not merely a political issue, but a crucial matter of national safety and autonomy, as far-right groups have been involved in numerous incidents of violence and hate speech worldwide and The USA has been vocal in their desire to occupy Canada.

Considering her already unpopular reputation, compounded by this recent decision, it becomes clear that she is no longer fit to serve as premier. We must insist that Danielle Smith step down from her position and that she personally covers the costs of her trip, thus showing responsibility for her actions.
