We, the undersigned, demand that criminal charges be filed against former San Bernardino Police Department Officer Sonny Aguilera, who was officially decertified by California POST in January 2024 for coercive sexual misconduct — yet has not faced any criminal accountability.

The misconduct occurred after Aguilera responded to a domestic violence call, where he later used his position to coerce the female victim into sex acts while off duty. After the victim attempted to report him to the department, she was threatened with arrest. Only after directly contacting the Chief of Police was an internal investigation initiated.

The case resulted in Aguilera’s decertification, confirmed by the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST), which issued a formal Statement of Findings:

Despite this, Aguilera was allowed to resign quietly, and the City of San Bernardino offered the victim just $5,000 in mediation — a grossly inadequate attempt to silence the case.

This petition demands:

That criminal charges be filed immediately against Sonny Aguilera
That the City of San Bernardino and SBPD be investigated for attempting to suppress the victim's report
That survivors of officer misconduct be heard, protected, and not silenced through legal coercion or hush payments
No officer should be above the law. Decertification without prosecution is not justice. If we allow police officers to abuse their power without consequence, we are complicit in a system that enables their crimes.
