Demand Cracker Barrel give Ashley Velebit her job back!
The Issue
This attached photo is @tabukibengal her poor mom did everything possible to save her, but unfortunately she passed away.
Tabuki’s owner is named Ashley and she is a victim of domestic abuse who escaped the trauma of being beaten by her boyfriend. She was forced to relocate, was involved in a car accident and had her father pass away all around the same time frame. She worked at her job the day her father passed away and has been struggling to keep it together. Her ONLY support has been her two kitties Tabuki and Namir
Sunday evening (9/24/2023) after work Ashley took Tabuki to the ER. While she was at the Veterinary Emergency Group in Chandler, AZ it was recommended she be moved to another facility that could better assist her. She was transferred to a specialist ICU at about 12:30am, known as the Arizona Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Center. She stayed with her until about 2:00am and had to work at Cracker Barrel at 7:00am so she didn’t get any sleep.
Ashley went back to visit Tabuki Monday evening (9/25/2023) and left at 7:33pm only to return just a few hours later after receiving a call that they had revived her with CPR and that she was not breathing on her own. Ashley stayed with her in the ICU all night.
By Tuesday morning (9/26/2023) she still wasn’t breathing on her own after being revived and required a blood transfusion. Ashley was forced to make the decision to let her pass to end her suffering. Tabuki passed at 7:40am. Tuesday was also inventory day at her Cracker Barrel location. Grief-stricken and exhausted she could not function and requested to not go in. Despite the recent loss of her father and other life circumstances and now the loss of her cat along with tons of debt in vet bills Ashley’s manager still demanded she come to work that day. Although Ashley was upset she knew she now had a very large vet bill and still went into work as her manager demanded, but broke down on the Highway on the way there.
On Wednesday (9/27/2023) after a series of unfortunate events her manager “Tara” contacted her and informed her she would be terminating her immediately. She told her she should be able to remain professional though these situations. She compared losing her cat to the recent loss of her father by stating “You seem to be taking this harder than your Dad”..
Unprofessional? This is by far the most DISGUSTING and heartless comment a manager could say to someone going through loss of their family members.
I urge everyone to #boycottcrackerbarrel and to sign the petition demanding that Ashley be allowed to return to work AND that her manager be terminated. I personally find this behavior from any member of management in any establishment to be entirely unacceptable.
Cracker Barrel’s own website states:
“We have a responsibility to live up to our mission of Pleasing People each day, ensuring that every member of our team and every guest feels at home, feels cared for like family, and feels like they belong. Also guiding our way is the sense of belonging we strive to deliver as part of our People Promise.”
“Our teams work hard to create a culture of hospitality that’s welcoming, respectful and inclusive to everyone who walks through our doors. Our food and décor celebrate warm memories of the past, and our inclusive culture and beliefs help us make way for an even brighter future, together. Discrimination, overt or through unconscious bias, has no place at Cracker Barrel Old Country Store.”
Please pressure news and media to demand an investigation fully into the management of the Casa Grand, Arizona Cracker Barrel since they clearly do not care about their employees.
Ashley is burdened with thousands upon thousands of emergency vet bills on Tabuki and she needs major support. She is now without a job and potentially at risk of losing her place to live if something isn’t done soon. This girl has had way too much trauma in a short time span. Here is a gofundme link for anyone willing to donate to help her overcome this nightmare.
Please stand with me in supporting Ashley through this injustice done to her.
