Demand Congress Uphold the Principles and Intent of the Constitution

We urge Congress to uphold the Constitution's principles and intent against potential executive overreach.
President Trump has proposed using Executive Orders to implement aggressive immigration policies, including mass deportations and expanded tariffs, which he hopes could bypass Constitutional safeguards[2][4]. Almost half the country opposed this before the election. That number has grown since he has doubled-down on his plans.
As a reminder, If Donald Trump were to declare war to support an Executive Order, his powers would not inherently change, as the U.S. Constitution grants Congress the exclusive authority to declare war, not the President[1][3]. Congress also controls the purse strings and could withhold funding[1].
Unchecked executive actions could lead to constitutional violations, economic disruption, and social unrest[8]. Beyond humanitarian concerns, mass deportations could lead to food shortages and increased inflation.
Deporting one million undocumented immigrants could cost $88 billion, that is more than three times NASA's entire annual budget of $24.9 billion for 2024.
Increased Tarrifs would increase the cost of goods we import. Walmart, Target, Costco prices would all skyrocket.
There is talk of increasing the national debt to offset resulting hardships and prop up the economy with incentives and tax cuts. As with credit cards, extravagant spending leads to more and more debt and higher fees and interest.
China is our second largest international lender. It holds about $774.6 billion in U.S. debt as of November 2024. We do not want that to increase.
Trump-owned businesses have filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection six times between 1991 and 2009[10]. These bankruptcies involved his hotels and casino businesses due to their inability to meet required payments and to re-negotiate debt[10]. Do not allow him to take our country into bankruptcy also.
