The search for a new Superintendent of Schools at Riverhead Central School District should not be decided by just a handful of individuals. The Superintendent position directs the course of education in our district.  Therefore, we believe it's crucial for the entire school community to have a say in the process. 

To ensure the best candidate is chosen to take on this vital role, this petition is seeking to involve not just the school board and the school administration, but also the Parent Teacher Organizations (PTOs), internal school committees, and, in addition, the wider public from our Riverhead School community.

We are asking for power in defining the role and qualifications of the new Superintendent based on our insights and experiences within the community. We have families and residents throughout Riverhead (and the adjoining towns which help make up the Blue Waves community) who care deeply about our children and their education. The perspectives and voices of all of these community members can shape a positive future for our schools.

Years ago, the PTOs had a vital role in the selection of a Superintendent of Schools at Riverhead. We feel that returning to that process would be a good start to helping us find a Superintendent of Schools who can succeed in our school community.

Every voice matters especially when it comes to educating our children, who are the future of this community. By signing this petition, you are standing with your community, demanding a democratic and inclusive Superintendent search process, placing the quality of our children's education as a priority.
