Chicago is home to hardworking citizens who strive for a safe and prosperous community. However, the influx of illegal immigrants and especially those involved in criminal activities jeopardizes this dream.  In fiscal year 2022, Chicago ERO arrested 46,396 noncitizens with criminal histories. This group had 198,498 associated charges and convictions, including 21,531 assault offenses; 8,164 sex and sexual assault offenses; 5,554 weapons offenses; 1,501 homicide-related offenses; and 1,114 kidnapping offenses. Effective law enforcement agencies like Homeland Security and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) can play significant roles in addressing this problem. It's essential we empower them to combat the presence of illegal immigrants engaged in criminal activities. According to a report by the Pew Research Centre, the U.S. has more immigrants than any other country in the world. A proportion of these immigrants do not follow the legal process to enter or stay in the country, further exacerbating the issue. By supporting Homeland Security and ICE, we also uphold the laws that protect our citizens and our shared values of safety, orderliness, and rule of law.
