Dear Supporters!

There is exciting news to share: Tomorrow, at 2 PM, the Kansas City Council will vote on a critical resolution to bring animal control services back under city management. This is a pivotal step toward ensuring more effective enforcement and compassionate care for animals in our community.

The proposed resolution, Resolution 241043, sponsored by Councilmember Melissa Patterson Hazley, directs the City Manager to develop an implementation plan to in-source animal control services. The resolution outlines key steps, including:

  • Creating a transitional timeline to bring operations in-house,
  • Assessing budgetary, staffing, and equipment needs, and
  • Establishing a plan for efficient and effective animal control operations.

This resolution comes after a thorough review of outsourcing proposals, none of which met the city's standards for adequate service. It’s clear that city-operated services will better serve the needs of our animals and community.

Thank you for your tireless support, emails, and outreach, which have brought us to this critical moment. Let’s push to ensure this resolution passes. Here's how you can help:

Attend the meeting in person: Your presence shows the council that our community stands united on this issue.

Contact your council members and representatives: Let them know this resolution is vital for Kansas City and must be passed now. Calls and emails tonight and tomorrow morning could make all the difference.

Let’s make it clear to our leaders: This resolution must be passed. Tomorrow is the day we stand together for the animals and our community.

Thank you for your dedication and action!
