We urge you all to consider emailing Director Space (jspace@sussex.nj.us) and demand that the County Commissioners move to take a vote of no confidence regarding Jon Connolly.
Last night, once again, the stone-faced board of Sussex Community College led by Kurt Gewecke listened to cries for help regarding the abuse of power by Jon Connolly. They offered no update on their supposed “investigation”, no recognition of the financial irregularities that have been brought to light, and they all seemed to be in total support of Jon Connolly. We did, however hear that one member of the board, Herb Yardley, did deviate from the normal “rubber stamp” with regard to the finances. Could it be that someone is paying attention?. While I was not able to attend the meeting, sources say that the board acted as if there was nothing going on at the college other than business as usual.
Tonight at the County Commissioners meeting we witnessed a sharp contracts in the actions of the Commissioners when parents and students spoke up about the poor leadership of Gus Madla over at Tech and the Commissioners took swift action - even before public comment - to all agree on a vote of no confidence in Superintendent Marla and the Board of Tech. This is rich!
So the two schools that are under the purview of the County Commissioners have problems at the top. Why were the Commissioners so quick to take a vote of no confidence regarding tech leadership, but not the college? We deserve answers from the Commissioners (they get these emails ans does the college board). Are they just complacent or are they too hiding something with regard to the college? Commissioner Carney was quick to place the blame on Gale Carrick for the failures at Tech, but what about her role in enabling and protecting Jon Connolly as a board member at the college?
The faculty, staff and students at the college deserves answers too. The Commissioners have over-funded the college ($20m in reserves) and underfunded Tech ($800,000). As a reminder, these are the only two schools they oversee!!!
There was one glimpse of hope. SCCC Professor Jason Boehm announced a write-in campaign tonight and is running for Commissioner of Sussex County. Prof Boehm spoke passionately about the failures of leadership at the college and Tech. He also spoke pointedly to the Commissioners about the failure to hold Connolly responsible.
One thing this has all proven is that our voices matter. We urge you to consider emailing Director Space (jspace@sussex.nj.us) and demand that the County Commissioners move to take a vote of no confidence regarding Jon Connolly.
Thank you
