DEMAND Centerville Admins Apologize for Posting AI “Art”

DEMAND Centerville Admins Apologize for Posting AI “Art”
The Issue
On July 23, 2025, the @centervillecityschools Instagram account made a post encouraging seniors to get their Golden Elk passes, providing free admission to sporting events and performances for the entire school year. However, the picture they used was clearly produced using AI image generation tools - tools which use excessive natural resources and energy and steal the work of human artists to base their images off of.
The image generated has AI written all over it - messed up text, deformed and melting hands, and it overall looked like it was prompted in a minute. Centerville’s use of AI is even more unacceptable given the sheer number of talented artists who would be willing to do art for a district social media post as a commission or even for free. Instead, they take the lazy route of using the very AI tools they condemn students for using and leaving students and artists high and dry. Centerville claims to support artists, students and athletes of all kinds. It’s time they break their silence and take accountability for the hurt they’ve caused - and do better in the future by refraining from using AI and supporting their talented student body instead.
