It is high-time that we demand Michigan's legislature to introduce species-specific regulations for the housing and care of guinea pigs in stores. Without these specifications, countless guinea pigs are persistently subjected to inappropriate conditions that lead to health issues like fungal diseases and physical injuries. Not only is this inhumane, but it also results in unsuspecting new owners taking on unexpected veterinary costs and emotional distress.

Implementing species-specific regulations will ensure that guinea pigs' living conditions align with their specific needs. Clear, concise guidelines will also help businesses understand what is expected and ultimately will improve the well-being of these treasured pets.

For the sake of our guinea pigs, let's demand humane treatment for all pet store animals starting with guinea pigs.
